Summer Heats Up at Eagle Pointe Lodge
July truly marked the arrival of summer in the stunning northwest of British Columbia, bringing with it an unbeatable combination of warm, sunny days and non-stop action on the water.

Coho Dominate, Chinook Resume, and Halibut Thrive
Despite a Chinook closure for most of the month, until it lifted on the 24th, our coho salmon fishing was nothing short of spectacular. Guests enjoyed generous limits of these feisty fish, with sizes consistently ranging from 7 to 13 pounds so far and packing weight every day. Their ferocious appetites and inquisitive nature made for thrilling catches using various techniques; while trolling remained our standard, several guests found great success with fly rods. As the month drew to a close, Chinook fishing proved steady, with impressive “teenage” fish up to 25 pounds being landed. We anticipate this excellent Chinook action will continue well into August.

Beyond salmon, halibut and bottom fishing remained fantastic. Our lodge leaderboard proudly displays several halibut weighing in at 30 pounds, hitting the maximum length size limit available for the season. For those looking to diversify their catch, ling cod and rockfish were consistently available with just a little dedicated effort looking for them.

A Wildlife Spectacle
Adding to the magic of July, humpback whales have arrived in force, drawn to the abundant baitfish in our waters. It’s become a daily occurrence to witness these magnificent behemoths bubble feeding or breaching in various locations – a truly awe-inspiring sight that never gets old.
We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into a phenomenal July at Eagle Pointe Lodge.
Tight lines,
Jonathan Beaty
