Gear up

Along with enthusiastic and experienced guides, we have everything you need for our world-renowned British Columbia fishing trips. State-of-the-art rods, reels and downriggers give you more than a fighting chance when a big one bites.

Rain gear will keep you warm and dry from cast-off to tie-up.

Take your catch home

Fish are kept chilled on the boat, then processed and flash-frozen when they hit the dock. Guests on direct flights from Prince Rupert can generally take 50 lbs. of fish home, but it’s wise to check with your travel agent or airline.

Many guests send all or part of their catch to St. Jean’s Cannery & Smokehouse to be smoked (hot or cold), candied or canned.

Once processed, the fish is shipped to your home.

Frequently asked questions

Do we fish in Alaskan waters?

No, we are not licensed to guide in U.S. waters.

What does a typical day of fishing look like?

Fishing times vary depending on the season. Breakfast is at 6 a.m. and fishing generally starts at 6:30 a.m. (we start fishing a little later as the season progresses). Early in the season, we return to the lodge at 4:30 p.m.

We fish for four hours on arrival and departure days, and up to 10 hours on full days.

Does the lodge provide a fishing licence?

We are a licensed vendor and provide our guests with fishing licences upon arrival.

I get motion sickness. Does the lodge have anything on hand?

Gravol and wrist bands for motion sickness are available on each boat. However, you are welcome to bring anything that works for you. We want you to have fun!

What type of reels and rods does the lodge use?

We use Islander MR2 reels and G-Loomis, some Sage rods and top-of-the-line halibut gear.

Can we fly fish?

Our boats are not designed to fly cast off. You are welcome to bring an 8 to 10 weight fly rod, 4” to 6” saltwater bucktails and a good saltwater fly reel if you want to troll.

We do not have flies or fly rods, and there is no freshwater fly fishing in the area.

Should I bring my waders?

Waders are not needed. We provide all rain gear.
